Some information on our snakes
Puff Adder
Puff Adders are responsible for the most snake bites in South Africa. They are considered one of the snakes with the fastest strikes in the world. Like most vipers, the puff adder gives birth to live young. Puff adders are ambush hunters and will lie for their prey in thick grass. The colouration of puff adders differs throughout South Africa. They are the most commonly found snakes in South Africa.

African Rock Python
The African rock python is South Afric's largest constrictor and can grow up to 5m in length. Prey is killed by constriction and their prey can exceed their own body mass. Rock Pythons are one of the few snake species that incubate their eggs by basking in the sun and then coiling around them to keep them warm. Constrictors do not have any fangs but, have a row of teeth to catch and hold their prey.

Green Mamba
Green mambas can reach lengths of between 1.8 to 2.5 metres. Mambas have a signature coffin shaped head. Green mambas are arboreal and spend most their time in coastal forests. Green mambas have neurotoxic venom (like the Black Mamba) although alot less toxic.

Boomslang
Boomslangs are arboreal snakes and rarely come down from trees. They feed on lizards, birds and small annimals. They can be found in different colours including bright green, brown, green and black variations. Boomslangs have round shaped heads and have big black eyes unlike any snake in the world. Bookslangs are back fanged snakes and have haemotoxic venom ( destroys the coagulent properties of blood )

Mozambique Spitting Cobra
Mozambique spitting cobras can grow up to 1.5 metres in length. Spitting cobras spray pressurised venom through their fangs towards the threat. They spit towards the highest part of the body, which is usually the face. Mozambique spitting cobras can spit without hooding and can spit the venom up to 3 metres. Underneath the hood, the mozambique spitting cobra has its trademark salmon pink and black markings.
